GEROY SIMON of the BC LIONS
http://www.GeroySimon.com
Before ultimately choosing football as a career, Simon was an excellent basketball player after falling in love with the sport at a young age.
He also took up baseball and track, but became attracted to football after watching Walter Payton. Envisioning a career in professional football, he accepted a scholarship offer from the University of Maryland.
During his spare time, Simon listens to B.B. King, watches Sportscentre, and plays pool. Geroy enjoys spending time with his wife Tracy and his three children, Gervon, Jaden, and Jordan.
CFL Career Receiving Stats
2007: Yet another spectacular season for the Lions after a slow start due to a nagging back injury. Led the CFL in receiving with 1,293 yards on 72 catches and 6 TDs. In the final eight games of the season, he grabbed 38 receptions for 859 yards and a 22.6 yard average and had all four of his 100-yard receiving games in the second half of the year. Geroy earned two Offensive Player of the week awards (Week 12, 18) as well as Offensive Player of the Month kudos for October. In the season finale, he lit up Calgary for 211 yards on 5 catches and two TDs to claim his second consecutive receiving crown. Geroy was also named to the West and CFL All-Star teams in 2007.
2006: A historic season for the 6th-year Lion as he torched opposing defences without impunity while appearing in all 18 regular season games, the West Championship and Grey Cup. Racking up 1856 yards on 105 receptions and adding 15 TD’s Geroy led the league each category in 2006. The CFL selection as Most Outstanding Player also recorded eleven 100-yard games and earned both West Division and CFL All-Star status. Simon picked up Offensive Player of the Week honours after a six-catch, 132-yard performance in Hamilton (Sep. 30/06) as well as the CFL Offensive Player of the Month award in September and October.
2005: Led the Lions in receiving (both yards and receptions) for the third straight season. Ranked 4th in the CFL in receiving yards with 1,322 and 5th in receptions with 89. Set an all-time Lions playoff record with a 90-yard reception for a TD vs Edmonton in the 2005 West Final.
2004: Became the third Lions player to record 100 receptions in a season with 104 catches for a team-record 1,750 yards. Grabbed 3 passes for 31 yards in the 2004 Grey Cup. Received his second straight West and CFL All-Star berth and was named Offensive Player of the Week in Week #9.
2003: Recorded his first 1,000 yard receiving season and was named a West and CFL All-Star for the first time in his career. Named Offensive Player of the Week for Week #16.
2002: Led the Lions with 50 receptions in his first full season in the starting lineup.
Notables: In just six seasons as a Lion, Simon has amassed 455 receptions (540 for his career) and trails only Jim Young in career receiving yards (9248-7551). Simon has averaged 98 catches and 1,654 yards over the last four seasons. His 55 receiving TD put him 3rd in the category and his 56 TD’s overall place him in 7th spot in Lions history (2 behind Mervyn Fernandez).
