24 HOUR NEWSPAPER- City stylists walk for water health
http://vancouver.24hrs.ca/News/2008/04/23/5362276-sun.html
Vancouver's aesthetics community showed that solving the world's water problems can be done one day at a time.
More than 150 salon owners, stylists and supporters marched five kilometres to city hall from Robson Street yesterday to raise $12,000 as part of a national campaign to fund clean drinking water developments for people in East Africa.
Eco-friendly cosmetics company Aveda Canada will donate a total of $150,000 to WaterCan, a non-governmental organization that guarantees one person's lifetime supply of clean drinking water for $25.
The sum will provide a clean drinking water supply for 6,000 people. The same number of children die from a lack of clean drinking water in the region daily.
"We're facing a world water crisis right now and we really want to help protect the most precious resource," said Aveda vice-president of education Joseph Caruso.
